The difference between passive crystal and active crystal?

1. passive crystal-passive crystal needs to use the oscillator in DSP chip, in datasheet. There are recommended connection methods on. Passive crystals have no voltage problem, and the signal level is variable, that is to say, it is determined according to the starting circuit. The same crystal can be applied to a variety of voltages, can be used for DSP with different clock signal voltage requirements, and the price is usually lower. Therefore, crystals are recommended for general applications if conditions permit, which is especially suitable for producers with rich product lines and large quantities. Relative to the crystal oscillator, the defect of passive crystal is that the signal quality is poor, and it is usually necessary to match the peripheral circuit (capacitor, inductor, resistor, etc. for signal matching). When replacing the crystal with different frequencies, the peripheral configuration circuit needs to be adjusted accordingly. It is recommended to use quartz crystals with high precision, and avoid using ceramics with low precision as much as possible.
2. Active Crystal Oscillator-Active Crystal Oscillator does not need the internal oscillator of DSP, the signal quality is good, relatively stable, and the connection mode is relatively simple (mainly to do a good job in power supply filtering, usually using a PI filter network composed of capacitors and inductors, and the output terminal can filter the signal with a resistor with a small resistance value), and does not need complicated configuration circuits. The usual usage of active crystal oscillator:-suspended feet, two feet grounded, three feet connected to output, four feet connected to voltage. Compared with the passive crystal, the defect of the active crystal oscillator is that its signal level is fixed, it is necessary to select the appropriate output level, the flexibility is poor, and the price is high. For applications with sensitive timing requirements, I personally think it is better to have an active crystal oscillator, because a more precise crystal oscillator can be used, or even a temperature compensated crystal oscillator of [sensitive word]. Some DSPs have no internal starting circuit and can only use active crystal oscillators, such as TI's 6000 series. Active crystals are usually larger than passive crystals, but many active crystals are now surface-mounted, comparable in size to crystals, and some are even smaller than many crystals.
